So … after 3 years of waiting, I finally got it done
I got my navel pierced!!!
I’ve been thinking about it for a very long time but never got around to actually doing it. In fact, 2 of my friends had theirs done just after I revealed to them my intentions to pierce my navel and for that, I felt teased. It all happened right after Christmas shopping at 1 Utama on Saturday. Thank God Mich and I managed to find a parking spot without much hassle as the queue leading into the complex was unbelievable. So after buying a nice pair of beige corduroy jeans (I’m a sucker for Corduroy) from Padini and strolling around for cheap sales and whatnot, we decided head back home as it was Mich’s mother’s birthday that night and I was invited to go dine with the family
On the way out, I asked Mich if I should take the plunge and get my navel pierced as we still had time before dinner. The decision was an easy one since Mich was already fed up with me whining about getting it done. So I was told to shut up, stop whining and head straight to Sri Hartamas .. hehe.
I wasn’t nervous at all until I laid down on a dentist like chair at the parlour. Before that, I was given a consent form to fill. So the procedure went on, done by a very beautiful girl mind you. First, she had to shave off some hair around my navel as it was quite bushy around there … it felt somewhat erotic in a weird way, having someone else shave your bodily hairs for you. Then alcohol wipes were used to disinfect the navel area. She had me stand up with my hands by my side while she marked the position of the stud with a marker. Satisfied with her marking, it was back to laying on my back. Since it was a reputable piercing and tattoo parlour, all equipments were sterilized to ensure client safety. A clamp like device which looked more like a tweezer was used to clamp the skin on top of my navel, ensuring enough of flesh is pierced without slipping.
Then the horror came!
The needle was as thick as a f*cking toothpick! It was a special type of needle where the first part of the stud will be easily installed when the piercing is done. So there I was, laying down in the cold room with Mich having a big grin on her face. She’s been through it before – TWICE! So she knew what it was like. I was told to take a deeeep breath and the moment I exhaled, I was skewered. Honestly, the pain wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be, so it was more of an ant bite and it was only painful the moment the sharp end of the needle pierces the skin. I didn’t feel the part where the needle travelled through the flesh and emerged on the other end. Sounds gory huh?
….. and for your information, this was done WITHOUT ANY ANESTHETICS!
Once the needle was through, she inserted the bottom half of the stud and counted to 3 before she pulled out the needle. Knowing i’d expect pain by the count of 3, the needle was already out by the count of 2 and yes, removing the needle was painful as well. Once all that had been done, she screwed in the top part of the stud and showed me how to clean the pierced area with an antiseptic solution provided.I left a happy client knowing my wish has been fulfilled after a long wait of 3 years
It costed me RM 140 altogether which was rather pricey. Mich was mistaken when she told me it was only RM 80 when she remembered that price was in Sunway Pyramid, not Borneo Ink.Anyways, I got my money’s worth knowing the piercer was an experienced one and the equipments were sterilized. It wasn’t painful once I left, but was more of a minor sore feeling for a couple of hours which wasn’t much of a problem. There are a few things I’m not allowed to do for a month such as sit ups and swimming in freshwater. The wound is expected to be good after 2 weeks but total healing time may be up to 4 – 6 months … sometimes up to a year depending on how well you take care of it.
No one in the family knows as of yet, and the reveal may be on Christmas Eve when the whole family is down in KL to celebrate. I guess they’ll be OK with it since my sister has a tattoo and they didn’t say anything unsupportive. I can’t wait to see the looks on their face – it’s going to be priceless

P/S – Like my abs?
