Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street
GLOOMY, SICK, HILARIOUS, BLOODY …. and of course, FUN!
I’ve said this and I’ll say this again. Johhny Depp shows are always a good watch, be it Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory or even Pirates of The Carribean.
Undertaking peculiar characters is what he does best. Period.
The story is simple. Don’t worry, no spoilers here.
Benjamin Barker returns to England after 15 years of being exiled by the evil Judge Turpin adopts the name Sweeney Todd and seeks revenge on the evil judge for stealing his wife and daughter. As the name of the movie suggests, Sweeney Todd goes back to his barber job and waits ‘patiently’ for Judge Turpin to turn up for the slaughter but after a failed attempt to kill him, he starts killing every customer that enters his place for a shave in a fit of rage. This fueled Mrs. Lovett’s business in meat pie production (guess why here). So the massacre goes on until Judge Turpin turns up again due to an incident. Charmed by Mr. Todd’s hospitality, Judge Turpin finally got caught up in Mr. Todd’s web of mischief and well ….. no further explanation needed. Watch out for the ending though, it’s very ironic.
A word of warning – this show is not for the faint hearted. Expect a lot of slaughter, blood and people being burned alive.
Probably one of the sickest shows I’ve watched.
